An enchanted forest grows in the secret glade enclosed within the borders of
this spectacular rug, inspired by a treasure currently on loan to New York's
Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The original tree of life patterned carpet dates
back to the early 16th Century and is attributed to artisans of Northwestern
or Central Persia. Its eleven colors are dominated by a dark red inner field
filled with a rich pattern of flowering trees, cypresses, vine-stems and
flowering shrubs, all aligned in the same direction.
In our modern
interpretation, the visual is likewise anchored by tall cypress trees that
send their spires across a voluptuous scarlet ground, filled with a
delightful profusion of flowering greenery that sparkles with jewel tones of
emerald and gold.
While the original has a wide 3-part border with arabesque
stems on a dark blue ground, the modern rug has a narrow golden edge
enhanced with delicate blooms and tendrils for a lighter effect that keeps
the eye focused on the magnificent central design. Machine Loomed 80%
Wool 20% Nylon.
